The Power of Good Relationships

In a recently published 75 year long Harvard study, it was found that the single greatest contributor to a fulfilling life was good relationships. Deep and fulfilling relationships with those who unconditionally accept us contribute a great deal to our health and happiness. Are your current relationships nourishing you and supporting you?

How do we go about cultivating these deep connections? How do we form genuine connections with like-minded individuals that will support our dreams? How do we express our true wants and desires in intimate relationships? These are all questions that dance in my mind when my strong desire to connect with others inspires me to take the initiative.

I am grateful enough to have overcome my fear of rejection at a young age, and feel confident reaching out to the world around me genuinely yet playfully. However, I have learned to always approach the realm of interpersonal relationships with a beginner's mind, as each dance with my brothers and sisters I've met and have yet to meet is so uniquely beautiful. Sometimes we have more formal relationships, more structured like a waltz, we have the unpredictable and unstructured relationships similar to a modern dance, the fun and highly energetic hip-hop style relationships, and the intimate sensual salsa partners as well (in addition to a few I've left out). Yet each of these have offer their own beauty, their own medicine, and their own lessons.

In the end, it is us who determines what value we add and receive from each of these relationships. What you give is directly proportional to what you will receive, if not in this specific current relationship, in the next similar archetype you'll keep attracting and attracting until you've finally stored the positive teachings from the teacher masked as your dance partner.

I personally have felt a stronger and stronger connection to the idea that each relationship is a soul assignment made by your higher self. In this specific time and space, you and the other have exactly what it takes to elevate each other to the next level of soul growth. Sometimes it's in the less obvious ways, and most times it's not until reflecting on the end of the relationship with gratitude that we realize what we've learned.

I leave you with one piece of advice that's always stuck with me: "Always leave people and places in better condition than when you found them."
